Knowledge Management

This activity concerns the study and prototyping of a knowledge management system aimed at the interactive annotation and subsequent presentation of research documents to different kind of users. The system will be based on Web 2.0 technologies. The main feature of the platform is the capability to present customized information tailored to different types of users.

The system will handle three types of objects: paths, tags and contents.

  • A path is a sequence of contents suitable for different types of users; it will be prepared by researchers using new contents or re-use those already in the system.
  • Tags are the information that allow the system to recognize the contents and, for example, support the researcher in the construction of paths. This information will also enable the system to suggest out of the path contents to the user.
  • Content is the information in the system, such as HTML pages, images, pictures and movies.

The system will handle three types of users: administrators, researchers and external users.

  • The administrators are responsible for portal management.
  • Researchers manage portal's contents.
  • External users are the ordinary users of the portal's contents.

The system supports:

  • the tagging of each informative unit in order to identify the semantic content and the type of user;
  •  the organization of contents through the creation of information paths;
  •  the labeling of paths defined by semantics and by the type of users;
  • the dynamic association of each information unit with other contents related to it.
